CRBI Historic Timeline

1983. First  IVF program begins in Indiana under the direction of  Dr. Marguerite Shepard, at  Indiana University Hospital.

1985: First IVF baby born in Indiana.

1986: Methodist Hospital opens IVF lab.

1990: Dr. William Gentry joins Methodist IVF, becomes Medical Director.

1992: Methodist IVF and Indiana University Hospital IVF labs merge .

1994: First Indiana baby born from ICSI (sperm injection) fertilized eggs.

1995: Methodist Hospital IVF lab moves to Methodist Medical Plaza North in Carmel.

1996: Dr. Michael Henry joins Methodist IVF.

1996:  First baby born from embryos prepared for implantation using new assisted hatching technique.

1997: IU Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children consolidate with Methodist Hospital of Indiana to form Clarian Health Partners.  Methodist IVF renamed Clarian Reproductive Biology Laboratory.

1999: First Indiana baby born using advanced embryo development (blastocyst) culture system.

2004: First Indiana lab to offer onsite biopsy by own technicians for Preimplantation Genetic (PGD) Testing

2004: Fertility Preservation Research: IRB approval for basic fertility preservation research on better freezing techniques.

2005: IRB approval granted for fertility preservation clinical studies for cancer patients. Clarian Values Fund Grant awarded to study cancer preservation techniques for female cancer patients.

2005: Drs. William Gentry and Michael Henry assume ownership of Clarian Reproductive Biology lab and rename it the Center for Reproductive Biology of Indiana (CRBI). Dr. Henry becomes Medical Director of the lab.

2005: Physicians who use CRBI (Shepard, Henry and Gentry) again report highest live birth rates from ART cycles in Indiana to the CDC. See http:apps.nccd.cdc.gov/ART2005/clinlisto5.asp?State=IN. Note CDC public reports appear two years after cycles are performed.

May 2006: First baby born from PGD tested embryos at CRBI.

April 2006: First Indiana Lab to use revolutionary freezing method (vitrification) for cryopreservation of embryos.

April 2007: First Indiana baby born from vitrified embryos. Other pregnancies ongoing.
