IRB#05-013: Emergency Cryobanking and Future Reproductive Use of Oocytes/Ovarian Tissue from Cancer Patients:

Under this IRB-approved clinical protocol, we are able to offer our cancer patients emergency banking of eggs or ovarian tissue before their chemotherapy or radiation therapy.  Both chemotherapy and radiation therapy can drastically reduce female infertility or cause sterility. This protocol involves two phases: banking of oocytes/tissue and future reproductive use for patient.  Tissue banked at CRBI can be used at CRBI in the future or transferred to any other fertility program for use. Oocytes and tissue banked at CRBI belong to the patient.

For oncology patients who wish to bank oocytes, we are partnering with Fertile Hope. The Lance Armstrong Foundation and Serono in the Sharing Hope Program for Women. The purpose of the Sharing Hope Program is to provide eligible patients with free ovarian stimulation drugs and reduced lab and physician fees to make oocyte banking financially easier for our oncology patients.  This program does not apply to tissue banking.

Basic Research
IRB #04-066: In vitro culture of Previously Cryopreserved Ovarian Tissue:

This IRB protocol allows us to optimize freezing, thawing and culture protocols using donated remnant surgical tissue.  The endpoint of this study is to determine the best protocols on surgical waste tissue and use this knowledge to better serve our future clinical patients.

This project is funded by Clarian Values Fund Research Grant (VFR#185) awarded to Carole Wegner, PhD.
